Courses for secondary school children
Our courses for secondary school children, between the ages of 11 and 14, are all taught by mother tongue English teachers, entirely in English. The courses are suitable for children of all abilities, whether you want them to get ahead with a subject that they already enjoy, or would like them to develop an interest and feel for the language, that maybe they haven’t found at school. The group sizes are small with a minimum of 4 children and a maximum of 10. Although the course is mainly grammar based, it is presented in a dynamic and interactive way, with emphasis on speaking and pronunciation. The children do not use course books and complete on average one piece of written work per lesson to consolidate their learning objectives.
Potentially this age group is the hardest to engage with traditional studying techniques, that’s why here at English World we use competitive games, challenges, quizes. role playing, exciting resources, songs, miming and lots more “hands on” activities to get the children involved and foster a love of the language, as well as increasing their knowledge of its structure and usage.
For each term of ten one hour lessons, the students will usually work with a vocabulary set of 20 to 30 verbs and 2 or 3 grammatical functions, however our teachers are aware that this is a rapidly developing age group, with many diverse needs, for example children with dyslexia or particular learning styles, and lessons are differentiated accordingly.
